Secure Multi-Model Access for The Johns Hopkins Community
In addition to HopGPT, IT@JH offers secure API access to industry-leading generative AI models from vendors like OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta safe for PHI and PII.
Our platform enables Johns Hopkins researchers, staff, and providers to experiment with, build, and integrate advanced AI capabilities into approved applications while maintaining data privacy and security.
Use is subject to the Johns Hopkins Generative AI Terms of Use, which outline important usage restrictions and caution users about the potential inaccuracy or incompleteness of model-generated output.

Who Can Apply
API access is available to members of the Johns Hopkins community who are building their own AI-powered solutions. This includes:
- Faculty, researchers and students
- Clinical providers and healthcare staff
- IT developers, analysts, and operational teams
You must have an active Johns Hopkins affiliation.
Data Security
While the API platform is hosted in a Hopkins-owned environment approved for sensitive data, including PHI and PII, users are expected to handle all data responsibly. Always follow Johns Hopkins data protection policies, limit the use of sensitive information to the minimum necessary, and ensure outputs are reviewed appropriately before use.

Pricing
- $1,500 one time set up fee, which includes up to 10 hours of support
- $50 per month base fee per API key
- Additional token usage costs plus 10%
How to Request Access
Users are expected to have secured any necessary approval prior to requesting an API key. Approval may include, but is limited to:
- SIP approval for any clinical systems
- IRB approval for non-clinical research cases
- A FERPA waiver for any use cases involving student data
Users with approval to use AI for their use case may request an API key by completing a brief API Access Request Form. You’ll be asked to provide your cost center and a short description of your intended use. Once reviewed and approved by the Technology Acceleration Group, your API key and setup instructions will be issued via email.
